CMDB for Web Applications

What is the CMDB?

The Configuration Management Database (CMDB) helps track assets such as systems, software, products, and facilities. It records their details at specific points in time and the relationships between them. At ASU, the CMDB is used for managing high and medium criticality systems, GDPR compliance, and supporting change management processes.

How to Add a Web Application to the CMDB

To add a new web application, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete the ServiceNow catalog form here.
  2. Departmental Responsibility: Once the application is imported, the respective department is responsible for updating its data.

Note: If an application has a criticality rating of High or Medium, the Vulnerability team will verify the application before it's added.

How to Decommission an Application in the CMDB

To decommission an application, follow this process:
1. Take the application offline and ensure it is no longer accessible on the web.
2. Clear all application vulnerabilities in ServiceNow's Application Vulnerability Response (AVR).
3. Confirm the assignment group in ServiceNow as AVR Decom.
4. Change the application's status in the CMDB to Non-Operational.
5. Remove the application from the scanning queue.
